ABOUT ME
Kaana Watchman is an artist of the the Fruitland and Hogback areas of New Mexico, belonging to the Dine (Navajo Nation). She is Red Running Into Water Clan, born for the Mexican Clan. Her maternal grandfather's clan is the Waters Flows Together Clan, and her paternal clan is the Towering House Clan.
Kaana's interest in art began at a young age fostered by her grandmothers and credits them for her continued artistic journey through her life. She would begin her professional journey in the arts at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas, where she earned a B.A. in Indigenous and American Indian Studies, focusing on Sovereignty. Through her artistic career, Kaana has now ventured into various creative realms as a published writer, poet, and artist.
Currently, Kaana is immersed in writing and illustrating a captivating children's book and creating educational zines, . Her talent has also earned her a coveted spot at the prestigious Santa Fe Indian Art Market. Every project and collaboration have been a steppingstone, shaping her career and expanding her horizons.
Beyond art Kaana prioritizes her family, enjoys cooking, and loves basketball, soccer, hockey, and running. You'll either find her at the library, thrift store, or her favorite local coffee shops.
